LOOKING through a gallery of The World this Week pictures on a newspaper website this weekend I was struck by these two images. In the picture gallery these photographs are not set side by side, rather they are far apart, to represent, one must suppose, worlds apart. Therefore, as I think they make a striking pair, I would like to set them side by side. The first is of a group of young women in an Islamic school in northern Nigeria (photo by Joe Penney); the second is of young women at the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix in Monte Carlo (photo by Julian Finney), the latter described as “Pit-lane girls”.
